MD Man Faces 22 Criminal Charges In 11 Thefts: ACPD
A Maryland man was extradited to Arlington County to face 22 charges for a string of thefts going back to July 2025, according to police.
ARLINGTON, VA — A Maryland man is facing 22 criminal charges in connection to 11 incidents that occurred in Arlington over the last five months, according to authorities.
Between July 2025 and January 2026, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Duane Barnes of Waldorf, Maryland, stole thousands of dollars in clothing on eight separate occasions from a Pentagon City retailer located in the 1400 block of S. Hayes Street, according to the incident report.

- Dec. 16, 2025: Shortly after 3:30 p.m., police received a report of someone forceing their way into a home in the 2400 block of north Underwood Street, and stealing electronics and jewelry.
- Dec. 22, 2025: After breaking into a residential building in the 100 block of South Irving Street, someone stole electronics and jewelry and fled the scene, according to a 12:09 p.m. report to police.
- Jan. 6 2026: The suspect forced entry into a home in the 2500 block of McKinley Street, rummaged through the interior and stole jewelry, according to the incident report. The suspect fled when the resident returned home.
Through their criminal investigation, detectives identified Barnes as a suspect in the 11 cases and obtained warrants for his arrest, according to police. Barnes was arrested in Maryland on Jan. 16 and then was extradited to Arlington.
Police charged Barnes with three counts each of burglary, petit larceny, and destruction of property, as well as five counts of larceny with intent to sell and eight counts of grand larceny, according to ACPD. He remains in custody in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
