MD Man Sought To Kill Trump Official At Arlington Home: Police
Arlington County police arrested a man they say planned to kill Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought last August.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 26-year-old Maryland man was charged on Jan. 22 for trying to kill Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought at his Arlington home last August, according to reports.
Arlington County police charged Colin Demarco of Rockville with attempted murder, criminal solicitation to commit murder, carrying a concealed weapon and wearing a mask in public to conceal identity, according to the incident report.
Around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 10, 2025, officers were called to investigate a suspicious person in the 3800 block of 7th Street South in the Alcova Heights neighborhood.

"A witness reported observing a male suspect, who was wearing a surgical mask and rubber gloves, carrying a backpack and appeared to be concealing a firearm under his shirt, on the victim’s porch," according to police. "The suspect subsequently approached the witness and inquired about the victim before leaving the scene."
Demarco had targeted Vought due to fear of a "fascist takeover" of the U.S. government following President Donald Trump's election in 2024, according to CBS News.

Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. However, the incident was captured on home surveillance video, which helped to identify Demarco as a potential suspect, according to police.
As part of their investigation, Arlington detectives executed search warrants for digital records associated with Demarco. Investigators found digital evidence that the suspect had searched for directions to Vought’s home and had information detailing locations of firearms possessed by a relative, according to police. Demarco also consulted a guide detailing tips to prevent criminal detection.
"Additionally, the suspect had posted online about the victim and had online discussions appearing to solicit others to murder the victim," according to the incident report. "Within days of these online solicitations, the Aug. 10 incident occurred where the suspect arrived at the victim’s address wearing a mask and gloves, possibly concealing a firearm and inquired about the victim. As a result of the investigation, detectives obtained the criminal warrants for the suspect’s arrest."
On Jan. 16, Demarco was taken into custody at his residence in Maryland and later extradited to Virginia, where he is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility, according to police.
During the investigation, agents with the U.S. Marshals Service learned that Demarco had claimed to have written a manifesto and drafted a series of notes with details ranging from a weapons stat to a "Body Disposal Guide," CBS News reported.

Demarco was arraigned in Arlington General District Court on Jan. 23 and had a bond hearing on Jan. 28, according to court documents. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 23. Demarco remains in custody.
The attempted first-degree murder charge is a Class 4 felony, which carries a potential penalty of two to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000, under the Code of Virginia. The wearing a mask and solicitation of murder are also felonies, which carry jail time, if Demarco is convicted.
"We are grateful for the work of law enforcement in keeping Director Vought and his family safe," an OMB spokesperson told CBS.
