Meet an “Amazing” Who Excels at Omelets and Hospitality
Cecil worked his way up from dishwasher to incredible breakfast chef, with a specialty in omelets.

Cecil Exum, 80, is an omelet-chef par excellence, who is so good that the employee cafeteria at the Marriott Hotel where he works is named after him: “Cecil’s Lounge.” Cecil started with Marriott before it was a hotel chain, when it was just a root beer stand called “Hot Shoppes.” He then began working at the Marriott's first hotel, Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Virginia. He worked his way up from dishwasher to incredible breakfast chef, with a specialty in omelets.
Now at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, he’s such a whiz, that people come to the Marriott just for his omelets. Not only that, his courteous and professional demeanor won him the prestigious Hospitality Superstar Award. Cecil likes to work, doesn’t like to sit at home, and intends to continue working as long as his health permits. Which, considering he’s never taken a single sick day in all his years of service, should be a very long time!
