Metro Surge Has Begun -- And Here's What Everyone's Saying About It
Northern Virginia riders on the Orange and Silver lines will have an unpleasant commute for the next couple weeks.

Thirteen days of Metro hell begin this weekend, and riders on the Orange and Silver lines are clearly dreading the Monday morning rush.
The year-long Metro SafeTrack plan to fix chronic problems in the Metro rail system begins with the first of 15 surges, which started June 4 and will last for nearly two weeks, heavily impacting the Orange and Silver lines during that time.
Metro will be running continuous single tracking at all times between the Ballston and East Falls Church stations from June 4 through June 16. That means Orange and Silver line trains in the area will run every 18 minutes.

"Metro lines affected by SafeTrack maintenance work are expected to be extremely crowded, especially during rush hour," Metro said in a statement. "Expect significantly longer wait times. All commuters will be significantly affected due to the influx of additional traffic from rail riders who have resorted to driving to work."
Not surprisingly, riders are apprehensive about the "surge," and voiced their concerns on social media:

Metro is closing at 12am on a Friday in what may be the biggest uber surge DC has ever seen.
Yes, a "surge." The capital's metro system is such a mess its managers resort to Iraq metaphors. https://t.co/h1wu8f1NTH

Listening to the Metro presser, and every time they say "The Surge" I can't help but think of the horror film "The Purge"...
