Metro Unveils Bright Yellow '6 Car Train Ends Here' Floor Decals

The roll-out only applies to four D.C. stations, but it could come to Arlington by the end of the year.

Does it ever drive you crazy when you're on the platform watching the Metro train pull in and it drives right past you, forcing you to run to get in the last car? Metro will be unveiling bright yellow decals on the platform indicating where a 6-car train ends so that it doesn't happen to you again.

Currently, it's just a test that is being rolled out at just four D.C. stations: Metro Center, Gallery Place, L'Enfant Plaza and Union Station, according to a WMATA statement. But if all goes well, it could be coming to Arlington Orange and Blue line stops soon.

Metro installed the floor decals overnight last week at those four stations. The 19-inch-by-48-inch decals are bright yellow and read "6 CAR TRAIN ENDS HERE" with an arrow pointing to the spot.

CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld said in the statement that he is hopeful the decals will improve platform safety by having riders spread out better on the platform so there aren't a bunch of people running for the last door on the last car.

Metro operates both 8-car and 6-car trains. The LED displays on the platform will tell riders how many cars the arriving train has, and therefore where they need to stand on the platform.

Metro may expand the decals to other stations later this year if all goes well.
