Police Investigate Malicious Wounding In Virginia Square

Police are investigating a physical altercation that took place early Saturday between multiple subjects, which caused minor injuries.

ARLINGTON, VA -- Arlington County Police are investigating an early morning malicious wounding that took place Saturday in the Virginia Square area, according to the daily crime report.

Officers were dispatched on Jan. 18, around 2:36 a.m. for the report of unknown trouble in the 900 block of N. Jackson Street. Arriving on the scene, officers learned that a dispute between multiple individuals that had started inside a business had moved outside, escalated and became physical.

According to police, suspects took the victim's phone and jackets and entered a vehicle. As they tried to flee the scene, they struck two additional victims. Those involved in the original dispute reengaged and a suspect used a metal pole to strike and damage the vehicle. The victims suffered minor injuries, but they did not require medical treatment. Police are continuing to investigate this incident.

The ACPD is also investing an attempted malicious wounding that occurred during a traffic stop early Monday morning in Nauck, according to the daily crime report.

Police were involved in a traffic stop on Jan. 20, around 3:10 a.m., at S. Walter Reed Drive at S. Monroe Street, when they noticed a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Another vehicle, also traveling in the wrong direction, pulled up alongside the first vehicle.

Officers approached the vehicle to investigate and saw a handgun with extended magazine. The driver disobeyed lawful commands from the officers, put the vehicle into drive and accelerated toward one of the officers, according to police. The officer ducked out of the way and the vehicle left the scene at a high rate of speed.

Police describe the suspect as a black male with light skin, in his early to mid-20s. He has a thin build and short, braided hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a tan winter hat, a dark shirt and glasses. The investigation remains ongoing.
