Police Release Sketch of Suspect in W&OD Trail Attempted Sex Assault

Police are hoping someone will recognize him and contact police after attack last Friday night.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect involved in an attempted sexual assault and abduction of a female victim which occurred on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail last Friday night (July 31).

The victim was attacked from behind as she was running in the Glencarlyn Park area of the trail (see Google map above) at approximately 8:45 p.m., according to police.

The suspect forced her to the ground and attempted to cover her mouth with his hand, police said. The female victim was able to scream out for help, causing the suspect to flee northbound on the trail, according to police.

The subject is described as a dark skinned Hispanic male between 20-30 years old, approximately 5’6” tall, weighing 140 pounds, police said. At the time of the incident the subject was wearing long baggy grey shorts without a shirt, police said.

The victim, working with Fairfax County Police Department sketch artist, was able to provide details for the attached sketch.
