The man tried to convey that he had a weapon, but fled without taking anything, police said.

ARLINGTON, VA — A robber fled empty-handed after police say he approached a man on Four Mile Run Drive and implied he had a weapon, but gave up when the victim couldn't understand his commands.

Police say that the robber approached a man in the 900 block of Four Mile Run Drive at around 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 16 and "made threats implying that he had a weapon," according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"There was a language barrier between the suspect and the victim," the report states. "The suspect fled on foot."
