Rodents, Roaches, Other Pests Reported At DCA Restaurant: Inspection
During a recent visit to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, an inspector found evidence of pest infestation at one restaurant.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County health inspectors found violations at 17 of the 25 food establishments they visited Jan. 20 to 21.
During a Jan. 20 visit, an inspector found evidence of rodents and insects at DCA - Taylor Gourmet located in the WNA-Terminal B/C Center Pier Post-Security - Space BC-20B, at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
"Mouse droppings observed on the cabinet shelving under the soda fountain machine, under the front counter hand sink and downstairs on the floor of the storage room," according to the inspection report. "A live immature German cockroach was observed on the cabinet shelving under the soda fountain machine. Fruit fly droppings observed on the ceiling and walls especially in the front counter area."

The inspector told restaurant staff that the premises needed to maintained free of insects, rodents or other pests by inspecting incoming shipments of food and supplies, as well as routinely inspecting the premises for the evidence of pets. If evidence of pests are found, trapping devices and other means of pest control must be implements.
During a Jan. 21 visit to Origin Coffee Lab & Kitchen at 1101 South Joyce St., Suite #B33, an inspector observed food containers of smashed potatoes and pancakes tightly wrapped with plastic and not arranged to facilitate heat transfer for faster cooling.

"The food containers should be uncovered or loosely covered when cooling TCS-foods to facilitate heat transfer and cool the foods quickly," the inspector wrote in their report.
