Report: D.C. Has the 2nd Worst Traffic in the United States
Only Los Angeles topped Washington in terms of number of hours spent stuck in traffic in 2015.

In what should come as no surprise to most Washington, D.C.-area commuters, we've been ranked the second worst metropolitan area in the country when it comes to traffic.
Only Los Angeles bested D.C. in terms of hours stuck in traffic with 81 compared to 75 for the Nation's Capital, according to INRIX.com. San Francisco also posted 75 hours, but apparently was slightly behind and placed at 3rd on the list.
The INRIX 2015 Traffic Scorecard analyzes traffic congestion in major metropolitan areas using data collected by INRIX itself on more than 1.3 million miles of urban streets and highways in the United States, as well as data from the Federal Highway Administration. The company says that cities with the worst traffic are often those that experience the most economic improvement in the past year.

The rankings indicate that in D.C., we experience worse traffic than commuters do in such massive cities as New York (5th, 73 hours), Boston (7th, 64 hours) and Chicago (8th, 60 hours).
While it may be a pain for us, it's also an indication that the D.C. economy remains strong and growing.

"Although cities have invested in multimodal options, including public transportation, pedestrian programs and bicycle lanes, a strong economy often results in more drivers on the road," INRIX said in a statement. "For most cities, applying big data to create intelligent transportation systems will be key to solving urban mobility."
