Scary Encounters in Arlington: Burglar Surprises Multiple Residents

Police responded to four burglary reports in a south Arlington neighborhood Wednesday morning.

ARLINGTON, VA — It was a frightening morning for multiple residents of a south Arlington neighborhood Wednesday morning, as several awoke to find a man in their home and items stolen.

Police reported a series of four burglaries that morning in the Long Branch Creek neighborhood near Gunston Middle School.

The first was reported between 3:15 and 3:20 a.m. in the 1400 block of S. 28th Street, when a man woke up and discovered an unknown man inside of his residence, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"The male victim confronted the suspect and the suspect fled the residence on foot causing the victim to contact police," the report states. "Numerous items of value were reported stolen."

At around 3:23 a.m., officers were called to the 2800 block of S. Meade Street for a report of a burglary in progress. A woman apparently had awoken to an unknown man in her residence, which prompted the man to flee on foot. Nothing was missing from her residence.

Police were sent to the 2800 block of S. Glebe Road at around 9:43 a.m., where a woman discovered blood on her front door and two large holes in the window screen. It appeared the would-be burglar had failed to enter the residence, however, the report states.

At around 9 a.m., police were again called to the 1400 block of S. 28th Street and found that when a woman tried to enter her apartment, she found it was secured by a deadbolt. After finally getting inside, she found that numerous items of value had been stolen.

"The suspect is described as an unknown age black male, approximately 6’0” tall and weighed 200-215 lbs," the report states. "He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. Officers on scene determined the subject made entry into the residences through unlocked windows. Investigation is ongoing."
