Shirlington Movie Theater Reopens After Renovations

Fans of AMC Shirlington will be happy to hear the theater has reopened after an extensive renovation, just in time for holiday movies and films hoping to become Oscar contenders.

The theater is located at 2772 Randolph St. in Shirlington Village.

The theater is opening Tuesday night with the showing of just one film, “Room,” at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. More films will be added Wednesday and the movie theater will be fully up and running by the weekend, showing films in all seven theaters.

A spokesman said in addition to new carpeting, paint, bathrooms, concession stand and cushy lounge chair seating, AMC also added new screens and a new sound system to make the experience even better for movie-goers.

Customers will have a wider choice when it comes to snack options as well, with pizza, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks on the menu, he said. Customers will choose their own beverages the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines.

Eventually wine and beer will be an option, a spokesman said, coming in 2016.
