Sun Glare May Have Been Responsible After Teen Struck in Arlington: Police

The 15-year-old girl was on her way to school when she was hit by a car on Lee Highway.

ARLINGTON, VA — Intense sun glare may have been to blame after a 15-year-old girl on her way to school was struck by a vehicle, police say.

The girl, who was struck in the 5100 block of Lee Highway, was taken to George Washington University with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident, which happened at around 7:36 a.m. on Sept. 22, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

The driver who struck the girl remained on the scene and rendered aid to her until police arrived.

"Sun glare was present for eastbound traffic on Lee Highway at the time of the collision and is being investigated as a contributing factor," the report states. "No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing."
