VA GOP Primary Election Results: Vega, Kiggans Win Nominations
Sen. Jen Kiggans will face Rep. Elaine Luria (D) and Yesli Vega will challenge Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D), according to unofficial returns.
VIRGINIA — State Sen. Jen Kiggans is going to face Rep. Elaine Luria (D) to represent Virginia's 2nd Congressional District, while Prince William County Supervisor Yesli Vega won the Republican primary to take on Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D) for the 7th Congressional District, according to unofficial returns from Tuesday' primary election.
Republicans held primary elections in the two key Virginia congressional districts, where they hoped to pick a nominee who will defeat the Democratic incumbent in November.
Six Republican candidates — Vega, Derrick Anderson, Gina Ciarcia, Bryce Reeves, David Ross and Crystal Vanuch — were on the Republican ballot for the 7th Congressional District seat.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D), the incumbent, has served in Congress since 2019 and was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
The 7th Congressional District includes a large portion of Prince William County, all of Stafford, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, King George, Caroline, Orange, Culpeper, Madison and Greene counties and a small part of Albemarle County.

With 203 of 213 precincts reporting as of 9:35 p.m., Vega had 28.95 percent of the vote and was declared the winner of the Republican nomination for the district, according to The Associated Press.
Rep. Elaine Luria (D), another incumbent who has served since 2019, was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
Four Republicans were on the ballot, fighting for the right to face Luria in November. The GOP candidates in Tuesday's election primary for the 2nd Congressional District were Kiggans, Jarome Bell, Andy Baan and L. Tommy Altman.
At 7:42 p.m. on Tuesday, The Associated Press called the race for Kiggans, who represents parts of the cities of Virginia Beach and Norfolk in the state Senate.
With 229 of 236 precincts reporting as of 9:30 p.m., Kiggans was leading the Republican primary with 55.64 percent of the vote.
The 2nd Congressional District includes areas from Accomack, Northampton, Isle of Wight and Southampton counties and the cities of Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk and Franklin.
In Virginia, polls were open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Any registered voter in the congressional districts was allowed to vote in the Republican primaries, as Virginia does not register voters by party.
In Virginia's 3rd Congressional District, Rep. Bobby Scott (D) will advance to the general election in November. No one from his party signed up to challenge him.
In the Republican primary for the 3rd District, Theodore Engquist and Terry Namkung faced off to run in November. At 8 p.m. Tuesday, The Associated Press called Namkung, a retired Air Force veteran, the winner of the Republican primary for the 3rd District.
In the Republican primary for the 6th Congressional District, Rep. Ben Cline faced a primary challenge from Merritt Hale. Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, The Associated called the race for Cline.
Only one Democratic candidate is running to represent the 6th District. Jennifer Lewis will advance to the general election in November.
No primaries were held in Virginia's 1st, 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts.
In the 8th Congressional District, Rep. Don Beyer defeated Victoria Virasingh in the Democratic primary on Tuesday. Republicans have already chosen Karina Lipsman, a refugee from Ukraine who became a U.S. citizen, as the candidate to face the Democratic primary winner in the general election.
