Virginia State Trooper Struck Tuesday on I-66

Trooper, three others sent to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Incident took place Tuesday afternoon along the shoulder of westbound I-66.

Another Virginia State Police (VSP) trooper has been struck and injured in Northern Virginia today, according to a news release from VSP.

At approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday, a trooper was stopped out with a violator on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of I-66, just east of Beltway/I-495, according to a news release.

The trooper was standing next to the violator’s car when a passing vehicle ran off the road and collided with the vehicles stopped on the shoulder, according to VSP. The trooper was struck during the course of the collision, state police said.

The trooper and three others have been transported to Fairfax Inova Hospital, according to the news release. The trooper suffered serious injuries and the extent of those injuries are still being assessed. The other three individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation at this time.
