Warning: Parts of GW Parkway Are Getting Shut Down This Week

Authorities are blocking a northbound lane in the late evening to early morning hours for work on "historic stone walls."

Attention George Washington Memorial Parkway commuters: expect to get delayed by lane closures this week if you drive in the evenings or very early mornings.

The Metropolitan Police Department and Department of Transportation is informing the public to expect single-lane closures for repair and replacement of "in-kind historic stone walls" starting Monday and continuing through Wednesday, July 13, according to a statement.

The single-lane closures will happen on the northbound lanes of the parkway about 2.5 miles north of the Key Bridge in Rosslyn. They will be closed for work from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. on those days.

"Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes, if possible," the statement adds. "The Metropolitan Police Department and the District Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to pay full attention whenever operating any motor vehicle and to be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic that may be associated with special events. These street closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions."
