Weapon Charges Filed In New Year's Eve Traffic Stop: ACPD
A 20-year-old Arlington man has a Monday morning bond hearing after being arrested during a New Year's Eve traffic stop, authorities say.
ARLINGTON, VA — A 20-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple weapon charges following a New Year's Eve traffic stop in the Columbia Heights area, according to authorities.
While conducting a traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. on Columbia Pike at South Walter Reed Drive, an officer noticed an open alcohol container inside the vehicle and determined that the driver didn't have a license, according to the incident report. Following a search of the vehicle, police recovered a concealed firearm and an extended magazine.
The driver, identified as Arman Uddin of Arlington, was arrested and charged with possession of firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of an extended magazine and possession of an open container, according to ACPD.

Uddin was arraigned Friday morning in Arlington General District Court and has a bond hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on March 4.
The possession of a firearm by a nonviolent felon within 10 years of a felony conviction is a Class 6 felony. If convicted on this charge, Uddin faces a potential sentence of up to five years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.

The concealed-carry and carrying a loaded firearm in public charges are both Class 1 misdemeanors, each carrying a potential punishment of 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500 in Virginia.
