ARLINGTON, VA — On Monday, residents and businesses in Arlington will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.

Arlington's official tribute will be held Sunday, Jan. 16, at 5 p.m. This will be the second year in a row that an in-person celebration has moved online due to COVID-19 concerns.

As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Arlington.

All Arlington County government offices and services will be operating on modified schedules for the holiday on Monday.

COVID-19 Clinics: All Arlington County Public Health Division COVID-19 vaccine clinics will be closed on Jan. 17. Curative testing kiosks will be closed.

Courts: Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court are closed on Monday.

Metered Parking will not be enforced on Monday Jan. 17.

DMV & DMV Select: All DMV offices are closed. Visit DMV's Online Services to access many available.

Human Services: Closed (Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and Mental Health Emergency Services open 24/7/365)

Libraries: Closed.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: Admin Offices, classes, centers and the Long Branch Aquatics & Fitness Center are closed on Monday. Parks are open.

Permitting and Inspection Services: Permit Office is closed on Monday, Jan. 17. No building or trade inspections will take place. Online permitting is available. System is available for customer use and application submissions.

Public Schools: Closed on Monday, Jan. 17.

Sheriff's Office: Administrative Offices are closed on Monday, Jan. 17.

Trash/Recycling/Yard Waste and Special Collections: Regular collection and Special collection will take place on Monday, Jan. 17. No mulch deliver on Monday. Customer Contact Center is closed on Monday. Household Hazards/Electronic Drop-off Facility will be closed on Monday. Earth Products Drop-off Yard is closed Monday, Jan. 17.

Treasurer's Office: Closed, but CAPP available for online payments.

Transportation

ART - Monday, Jan. 17: ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55, and 87 will operate regular Saturday schedules. All other ART routes will not operate. The Customer Call Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17.

STAR – The STAR Call Center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 17. All standing order rides, except for dialysis, will be canceled. Call before the holiday to request a trip.
