Ashburn’s Outstanding New Community Park Completed

After nearly a year of work, a crown jewel of Loudoun County neighborhood parks was completed this week in Ashburn. Located at 20750 Marblehead Drive, the construction fences have been removed from Potomac Green Neighborhood Park. Although not formally inaugurated yet by the County Supervisors, the park is open to the public to enjoy and explore.

The park land was donated to the County fifteen years ago by Pulte Corporation who constructed the planned community Potomac Green whose entrance is across from the park. The name comes from an almost identical Pulte planned community north of Detroit built during the 1960s. At the time, the name was made popular by Ralph Lauren for his pullover polo sweaters.

The new park is superbly designed with a walking trail around the periphery, inclusion of several soccer fields that were previously created, and preservation of a natural area that runs through it to neighboring wetlands. County Supervisor Sylvia Glass was instrumental in maintaining the ecology during construction.

The site includes a children’s playground with the latest equipment, a baseball field, two picnic pavilions with concession stand, a dog play area, tennis/pickleball courts, and two well-designed boule/bocce areas.

Especially notable and innovative is the adult exercise equipment area filled with state-of-the-art Pilates equipment from Greenfields Outdoor Fitness that allows users with wheelchairs to exercise as well. This facility may well prove so popular year round that a protective cover or dome will add to its utility.
