Bicyclist Injured in Hit-and-Run Accident

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office asks driver to come forward.

A bicyclist was being treated at a local hospital Thursday afternoon after a hit-and-run accident in Paeonian Springs, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The bicyclist received serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Paeonian Springs is northwest of Leesburg, near the interchange of Route 7 and Route 9.

The adult male victim was riding his bicycle on the Washington & Old Dominion Trail when shortly before 3:30 p.m., he crossed Simpson Circle near Route 9. As the victim was crossing the roadway, he was struck from behind by an unknown driver.

It appears the vehicle turned onto Simpson Circle from eastbound Route 9, where the driver struck the bicyclist before leaving the scene, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office is asking for the driver of the vehicle to come forward to provide information regarding the circumstances of the crash by calling 703-777-1021. Any potential witnesses are asked to call Sgt. Robinette of the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Section at 703-737-8374.
