Dump Truck Driver Rescued After Getting Buried in Ice, Mud

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office: Operator airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A dump truck driver has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following an accident Sunday in which he was buried under a ton of ice and mud, Loudoun police said.

The police responded at 2:13 p.m. Sunday to the accident in the 400 block of Glenn Drive in Sterling, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. The dump truck operator was attempting to remove ice from the top of his dirt load when the truck’s rear gate opened and he fell out. He was buried under the load for more than an hour.

The victim was eventually pulled from the entrapment and airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, the Loudoun police said. He remained hospitalized on Monday.
