George Mason University and NOVA Celebrate Shared Space in Loudoun

An Oct. 27 ribbon cutting in Sterling, VA celebrated the co-location of George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College.

An Oct. 27 ribbon cutting in Sterling, VA celebrated the co-location of George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College. The program included remarks by Dr. Robert Templin, president of Northern Virginia Community College and Dr. Angel Cabrera, president, George Mason University. George Mason University president Ángel Cabrera says the opening of the new Mason in Loudoun site helps George Mason and partner NOVA meet their missions of accessibility and affordability of a higher education for all.

“We measure our success not by how many we exclude, but by the thousands of lives we change for the better,” Cabrera said Monday as he joined NOVA president Robert G. Templin at the ribbon cutting for Mason’s newest location at 21335 Signal Hill Plaza in Sterling, VA.

Cabrera lauded Templin as a visionary for increasing enrollment at the community college by 20,000 students since 2002, and promoting the Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program, which guides high school students toward higher education. NOVA students account for more than half of the 2,700 transfer students arriving each year at Mason, Cabrera said, almost equaling the number of freshmen who start each fall at the university. And more than 80 percent of high school students who attend NOVA through the Pathway to the Baccalaureate Program, and continue their education through Mason, earn their bachelor’s degrees at Mason.
