McAuliffe is pitching multiple sites for a stadium along the unbuilt second leg of Metro’s Silver Line, the Washington Post reported over the weekend. The first leg of the Silver Line opened last summer between Falls Church and Reston; the second leg is projected to open in 2018.

The second leg will include a stop at Dulles Airport and run west to two more stops along the Dulles Greenway. The new stadium would replace FedEx Field, the Redskins’ home in Landover, Md.

A poll conducted by CBSDC.com found that of the three locales where Redskin fans live - Virginia, Maryland and the District - most respondents would favor the team moving back to the District. The Redskins played at RFK Stadium from 1961 to 1996. They moved to FedEx Field in 1997.

But Maryland is trying to keep the Redskins’ regular-season and playoff games in their state. Gov. Larry Hogan told the Post that he recently pitched Redskins owner Daniel Snyder on staying in Maryland during a two-hour meeting.
