A $107.7 million project to widen a road that links the Dulles Greenway with Route 50 began Thursday with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The event along Old Ox Road (Route 606) brought together officials from Loudoun County, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA). The project will widen the remaining two-lane section of Old Ox Road between Evergreen Mills Road and the Dulles Greenway, along the western and northern edges of Dulles Airport, according to VDOT.

Farther east, a four-lane section of Old Ox Road serves commuters by linking the Dulles Greenway with Route 28.
Under a partnership agreement for funding the project, VDOT is contributing about $41.5 million; Loudoun County, approximately $41.2 million; and MWAA, about $25 million, according to a county statement.
The MWAA is also contributing about 40 acres of land at Dulles Airport, valued at about $12 million, on which most of the widening is taking place.
The widening project, due for completion in the fall of 2017, is being carried out by Shirley Contracting Co. and Dewberry Consultants. More information about the project is available on the VDOT website here.
