The driver, a Sterling man, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He was also charged with reckless driving, the sheriff’s office said. The police report did not give the driver’s name or age.

Sheriff’s deputies responded at 5:20 p.m. to the area for a report of a commercial motor vehicle crash. The vehicle, a 2005 Ford three-axle dump truck pulling a 2015 Kaufman three-axle flatbed trailer, had been moving north towards Route 7.

The driver told the deputies that he lost control of the trailer, and it began crossing into the oncoming lane of Belmont Ridge Road. The driver drove the rig off the right side of the road to prevent the trailer from striking an oncoming car.

The combination unit went down an embankment, struck the culvert, and continued onward to strike the embankment on the other side of Goose Creek, the police report said.

The driver was transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital-Lansdowne for treatment and was later transferred to Inova Fairfax Hospital, the sheriff’s office said.
