Police: Youth Caught Breaking Into Cars in Sterling

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office: Juvenile turned over to parents; he may face charges.

A male juvenile may face larceny charges after being caught by a Loudoun County sheriff’s deputy last week while attempting to break into vehicles parked on a Sterling street.

The deputy responded at 1:20 a.m. Friday to the area of Winding Branch Terrace in Sterling for a report of vehicle tampering, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. An additional report was received of a suspicious person in the area of Regents Park Terrace and Blossom Drive.

The deputy saw the juvenile male attempting to gain entry into vehicles, the report said. The deputy initiated contact with the subject, who attempted to flee on foot, but he was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.

The subject was identified as a juvenile from Sterling and was turned over to the custody of a parent, the report said. Petitions are pending.
