Stone Bridge Rowing Wraps Up 2022 Post-Season Campaign

The Stone Bridge High School (SBHS) rowing team from Ashburn, Virginia concluded its 2022 post-season competition at the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta (the world's largest High School regatta) on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 20-21 and at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America’s (SRAA) national championships on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey, May 27-28.

The 95th Stotesbury Cup Regatta brought significant challenges from both the teams and the weather, the latter of which truncated the Day 1 semi-finals and prevented many Stone Bridge boats from full competition. In summary:

• The Men's Varsity1 4+ boat took 13th in the time trials and made it into the semi-finals, where they took 5th place and did not progress.
• The Men’s Varsity 2 4+ boat took 9th in the time trials; this qualified them for the semi-finals but they were cancelled due to weather.
• The Women’s Varsity 4+ boat took 24th in the time trials due to poor boatmanship by another school that impeded the Stone Bridge boat’s progress.
• The Women's Junior-Varsity 8+ boat took 12th in the time trials; this qualified them for the semi-finals but they were cancelled due to weather.

Held over Memorial Day weekend, the SRAA National Championship Regatta saw Stone Bridge do battle with teams from across the United States on the scenic Cooper River. In summary:

• The Women's and Men’s Varsity 4+ boats made it out of their initial heats into repechages, but they did not make it into the semi-finals. Their performance, though, landed both boats within the top 18 in the Nation.
• The Women's Junior-Varsity 8+ boat made it into the semi-finals but did not advance to finals. This put them within the top 12 boats in the Nation. This is also the first 8-boat Stone Bridge Rowing and Loudoun County has sent to Nationals and the first boat to advance into the semi-finals.

Stone Bridge Rowing’s coaching staff was extremely proud of the athletes' determination throughout a challenging regular season followed by a grueling post-season campaign.
