Stone Bridge Rowing wraps successful season at VA state championship

The Stone Bridge High School (SBHS) rowing team from Ashburn, Virginia concluded its core 2022 campaign at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship (VSRC) regatta at Sandy Run Regional Park on the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Virginia, on May 14th, 2022. SBHS endured a grueling 2-day, 93-race crusade against boats from across the Commonwealth with impressive results.

This year's medalists include:

  • 6-seat: Maddie Lloyd
  • 5-seat: Sydney Hall

Beyond the medal count are several impressive facts:

• The Women’s Varsity 4+, Men’s Varsity1 4+, and Women’s Junior Varsity 8+ boats are the only boats in Loudoun County to qualify for the Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) national rowing championship…again
• The Women's Junior Varsity 8+ bronze medal boat is just the second eight in Stone Bridge's history to medal at States
• Although they did not medal, the Men’s Varsity1 4+ boat (Jemma Guilliano, David Huelsmann, Paul Tucker, Sean McMichael, and Mason Sibley) placed fourth in the state and the Men’s Double Scull (Anthony Gonzalez and Amiel Diaz) placed fifth in the state

Head Coach Trevor Barry was extremely proud of the coaches’ & athletes’ effort, growth, and accomplishments throughout the regular season. Next up for Stone Bridge Rowing is the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta, the world's largest High School regatta, where 5 of the team’s boats will compete on the Schuylkill River in the heart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 20th and 21st. The Women’s Varsity 4+, Men’s Varsity1 4+, and Women’s Junior Varsity 8+ boats will then head to Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey, May 27th and 28th for the SRAA national championships.
