Two Arrested After Attempted Robbery of Armored Truck

Gunfire breaks out at shopping center: Loudoun County Sheriff's Office

One suspect is in custody and a second is hospitalized after shots were fired Thursday during a brazen daylight attempted robbery of an armored truck in Chantilly, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 1:30 p.m., Loudoun sheriff’s deputies responded to the Eastern Marketplace Plaza for a report of an attempted robbery of a Dunbar armored truck. Multiple shots were reportedly fired between the suspects and security personnel assigned to the truck, Loudoun police said.

Two suspects were seen fleeing the area in a vehicle, and a lookout was posted to neighboring jurisdictions, Loudoun police said.

The vehicle was located in the area of Route 50, and a high-risk traffic stop was conducted by a Fairfax County police officer in the area of the Fairfax County Parkway and Rugby Road. Two subjects were located inside the car and taken into custody, according to Loudoun police.

One subject was found to be suffering from injuries consistent with gunshot wounds, the Loudoun police said. He was transported by medical helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Law enforcement personnel remained on the scene as the incident remains under investigation. More details will be released as they become available, Loudoun police said.
