• Man sentenced for shooting, blinding family dog in Henry County (wset.com) — A Bassett resident has been sentenced after a 2025 Henry County shooting left a family’s dog permanently blind, drawing strong local concern about animal cruelty. The 52-year-old man received a largely suspended five-year sentence plus additional firearm-related time after pleading guilty, and authorities detailed how the investigation tied a recovered shotgun and shells to the incident.

Sponsored by local partners including Bassett Furniture, the fair offers $5 gate admission, optional ride wristbands, agricultural exhibits, a petting zoo, and nightly entertainment aimed at drawing thousands of area residents.
