• Fire destroys garage at Johnson's Orchard (pmg-va.com) — Bedford County firefighters responded late Friday night to a garage and workshop fire at Johnson's Orchard near Elmo's and Appleseed roads, finding flames through the roof. Multiple county and neighboring companies shuttled water, searched the structure, and overhauled the scene for nearly two hours, and officials say there were no injuries as the Fire Marshal investigates.
   

• SML Gives becomes Give Local SML (pmg-va.com) — Nonprofits serving Bedford County can already mark their calendars for the newly renamed Give Local SML online giving day, coming March 10, 2027. The regional fundraiser, which has generated over $1 million since 2021, helps Bedford, Franklin, and Pittsylvania County organizations raise money, gain visibility, and build community support, with applications for 2027 participation opening November 1.
   

• Neighbors raise road safety concerns over proposed 168-home development in Bedford County (wset.com) — A proposed 168-home development on Hooper Road in Forest is moving to the Bedford County Board of Supervisors after a close planning commission vote, and neighbors are voicing serious traffic and safety worries. Residents also question whether the age-restricted, 55-plus marketing will be enforceable, while county staff say they evaluated the project as if no age limit applied.
