I recently found out that Petco pays their employees with "Debit Cards", this does not help our residents or our community. Employees pay gets loaded on a debit card instead of direct deposit or a paper check. This is not good for two reasons. The employee's hourly rate drops below minimum wage because of the bank fees they are charged for "using their money". When a employee is paid this way, there is less money funneled back into the community or area, which in turn does not help the economy. I've heard but have not confirmed yet, McDonald's and Walmart pays their employees this same way.
