Being Part of the Answer

In his 27 years as a Navy chaplain, Bill Perry honored the lives of those who served, conducting up to 15 memorial services a year. He gave comfort to  families and friends struggling with loss, and provided hope and guidance for those searching for answers.

When people had been hurt or felt like they’d been forgotten, Perry was always there. The same holds true today.

“When I see a story on TV or in the paper about little children being hurt, I cry inside,” said the Fort Hunt area resident. “CASA gives me the opportunity to respond, when crying inside simply isn’t enough.”

Bill is more than a man of the cloth. He is a man of action. In addition to preaching on Sundays, he has been an ESL (English as a Second Language) volunteer for the last six years.

“Being retired allows me to spend time in areas that concern me,” Bill said.   “It allows me to get off the sidelines and stop only wishing things were better."  "

I can make things better," said Bill. "I’m not the answer. But I’m part of the answer.”

Since 2008, Bill has been the only “continuity” in the life of his CASA child. When apart, he reassuringly reminds the child that they’re only separated by miles. For CASA, having someone as caring and dedicated as Bill is a true blessing, indeed.
