Robinson Crew Divides and Conquers in Two Regional Regattas
Robinson Crew has "best day ever" as lower boats score significant state championship wins and varsity is best overall at Big Mathews

The Robinson Crew team took on a “divide and conquer” strategy this past weekend, as the lower boats and the varsity teams competed in two different regional events.
Close to home, on a beautiful sunny day on the Occoquan River, three Robinson Crew boats earned state championships in the Ted Phoenix Regatta held at Sandy Run Regional Park. The Women’s Novice Eight, Men’s 4th Eight and Men’s 5th Eight all received first-place medals and trophies for their wins.

The Men’s 3rd came in second place in their final, turning in their fastest time of the season, 4:52.2
Meanwhile, the Men’s and Women’s varsity faced the choppier waters of the East River off Williams Wharf, as they took first place in the Big Mathews Regatta in Mathews, Va., not far from Newport News. It was a clean sweep for the men, with first-place wins for the Men’s 1v and 2v and Men’s Junior 8.

The Women’s 2v and Junior Eight placed first and the Women’s 1v took second in their respective races.
Noting the collective accomplishments of the team, head coach Jon Barrett said, “Saturday, May 4 was probably the best overall day for Robinson ever.”
The varsity boats will compete in the state championships at Sandy Run on Saturday.
