Top Ten Tips For New Parents When Buying A Home

Tips for purchasing when you have young children at home.

This post focuses on things to look for when purchasing a home when
you have a young family. While the video gives more indepth reasoning in
a nutshell…

10. Stay in budget.  Leave yourself room to play.  Family outings,
the movies, your hobbies…  You should be able to splurge a few times a
month without horrible consequences.

9. Let location be your guide.  Your time is your most valuable
commodity.  Decide now if you need to spend it on the road or have more
family time.

8. Garage schmarage. Unless you have a specific undeniable need or
money is no object this may need to move farther down the list of
priorities.

7. Outside is great but we live inside.  In population dense areas
such as ours, space comes at a premium.  If the home is a fantastic fit
otherwise, look for parks and recreation nearby.

6.Let the sun shine in.  If a yard is within budget, get a kitchen
with a view to it. Watching the kids play while you wash dishes allows
you peace of mind.

5.Finished basements are great but don’t overlook an otherwise creme
puff home that is otherwise a perfect match for you.  Basements can be
finished.

4. Great rooms are fantastic.  Look for a home with a large living
area where toys and toddlers can be stored without taking over the home.

3. Master suite retreat.  In a perfect world, look for a home that
can provide adult respite in the bedroom.  A private master bath maybe
even a sitting area.  Taking the time to replenish yourself will allow
you to be the best parent you can be.

2. Stairs are a challenge for children and a fright for adults.  Some
homes accommodate baby gates well others do not.  Be aware of where you
might place gates for child safety.

1. Look for a home with adequate space potential for family growth.
Both for the number of people and the size of people.  As your children
grow their space needs will increase.
