Burke Students Awarded Scholarships from Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation

Two Burke natives and graduates of Lake Braddock Secondary School and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology were awarded scholarships from the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation.

The foundation awarded Timothy Tran with the Ben DeFelice Scholarship, which was established in 2005 to pay tribute to a former chairman of the board. Tran graduated from TJ in 2011 and currently attends Princeton University. 

Nicholas Balenger, who graduated from in May from Lake Braddock Secondary School, was awarded the the Central Intelligence Retirees Association (CIRA) scholarship. Balenger will attend Virginia Tech.

Other students in the area were also awarded the scholarship. A full list of those students is below:

• Gabriela Alvarez of Sterling, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Dominion High School and will attend Elon University.
• Andrew Brailey of Vienna, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of George C. Marshall High School and will attend Elon University.
• James Chang of Fairfax, Virginia is a 2012 graduate of Fairfax High School and attends North Carolina State University. 
• Michael Chismar of Leesburg, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Tuscarora High School and will attend Christopher Newport University.
• Alexa Dantzler of Manassas, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Bishop Denis J. O’Connell High School and will attend Emory University.
• Adam DeBriae of Manassas, Virginia is a 2011 graduate of Osbourn Park High School and attends the University of Charleston.
• Carlie Enns of Winchester, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of James Wood High School and will attend West Virginia University.
• Michaela Fisher of Purcellville, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Woodgrove High School and will attend the University of Virginia.
• John Franklin of Vienna, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of James Madison High School and will attend the University of Virginia.
• John Marcantonio of Great Falls, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of St. Anselm’s Abbey School and will attend Virginia Tech.
• Steven Natale of Lorton, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of South County High School and will attend George Mason University.
• Katherine Neal of Reston, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of South Lakes High School and will attend the University of Virginia.
• Elizabeth Oden of Arlington, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Yorktown High School and will attend Lynchburg College.
• Grant Pemberton of Fairfax, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of The Potomac School and will attend Tufts University. 
• Wray Sinclair of Herndon, Virginia is a 2013 graduate of Herndon High School and will attend the University of Utah.
• Alexandra Smyre of Chantilly, Virginia is a 2010 graduate of Westfield High School and attends the University of Virginia.
• Justin Sunday of Chantilly, Virginia is a 2010 graduate of Westfield High School and attends Old Dominion University.
• Kristi Carrigan, graduate of Oakton High School, who will attend the United States Military Academy West Point.
  
• Chauncey Crail, graduate of Oakton High School, who will attend Colorado College.
