CASAs of the Roundtable

Once a month, CASA volunteers gather at the Fairfax CASA office for one of the program’s most popular events, the lunchtime roundtable.  Nicknamed "CASAs of the Roundtable," these monthly meetings allow CASA volunteers to share case stories and swap notes about how to best serve abused and neglected children living under the court’s protection.

At the July 11 roundtable, volunteers shared best practices for serving children in situations where a parent’s rights have been terminated.  The group discussed the legal implications of a termination, how to advocate during an appeal, and the importance of remaining a constant presence for the child.

The volunteer roundtables are just one of many events offered to Fairfax CASA volunteers as part of an extensive continuing education program. Volunteers also attend lectures, book discussions, movie nights, or special day-long trainings to increase their advocacy skills.
