Dog Perishes in House Fire Sunday Night in Springfield
No one was home during the fire; two people and two dogs were displaced by the blaze, which caused a "total loss," fire department said.

A family dog perished in a fire Sunday night that took more than 60 firefighters more than 30 minutes to put out in the Springfield area, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters responded to a house fire, Sunday at approximately 9:20 p.m., in the West Springfield area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located in the 7700 block of Carrleigh Parkway.
When firefighters arrived at the home Sunday night, heavy smoke and fire was billowing from rear of the split-level home, according to the fire department. However, despite firefighters conducting an aggressive fire attack, the home became fully engulfed with heavy fire, the fire department said. The Incident Commander struck a second alarm bringing more than 60 firefighters to the scene. It took firefighters more than 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, they said.

No one was home when the fire broke out, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. A neighbor reported the fire after seeing heavy fire from the rear screened-in porch, the fire department said. Three dogs were inside the home and one of the dogs perished in the fire, the fire department noted.
Two adults and two dogs have been displaced, the fire department said. Red Cross is supporting the occupants. There were no other injuries.

The home is a total loss, according to investigators.
According to fire investigators, the fire started in the attached porch in the rear of the home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
