August is quickly coming to a close. Here's a peek at some of the events in the Burke and Springfield area this week.

  1. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)Ā students return to schoolĀ in 7 days.Ā 
  2. The Springfield BridgeWalkĀ is tonight at 7 p.m. Local residents will come together andĀ march acrossĀ Veteran's Bridge to American Legion Plaza. Want to go? All participants are meeting at the corner of Amherst and Bland in Springfield.
  3. Firefighters are givingĀ free haircuts to local kidsĀ on free or reduced lunch plans today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. atĀ Gum Springs Community Center, located atĀ 8100 Fordson Rd., inĀ Alexandria.
  4. In case you missed it yesterday,Ā Fairfax County Public Schools has a surplus of more than $300 million. The money in theĀ fund usually goes to pay for special projects and to balance the following year's budget.
