Greenspring’s 'Village in Motion' Celebrates 10 Years

The retirement community's in-house television station has been broadcasting its daily show since Jan. 2, 2002.

in-house television program "Village in Motion" is celebrating its 10th anniversary.  On Jan. 2, Channel 6, the community's in-house television station which produces the show, aired the segment that began it all on that date in 2002.

"Village in Motion" is aired live from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at Greenspring, and replayed four times throughout the day.

Two staff members -- Executive Producer Diane Gatsis Havinga and Director Producer Andrew Seegers -- produce the show.  Volunteers from the Greenspring community fill all crew positions.

"When Channel 6 began "Village in Motion" in 2002, the station had only a few resident volunteers; now there are 35," said Seegers.  Resident volunteers help with all facets of production, from hosting to floor managing to audio board coordination.

"Most of the resident volunteers don't have any past experience in a television studio," said Seegers.  "The Channel 6 production team trains volunteers in audio and television production, allowing them to experience all aspects so they can choose what makes them the most comfortable," he said.

The talk show features a variety of guests, including Greenspring staff, local and regional politicians, health and fitness professionals, media representatives, and residents who have unique talents or stories to share.

"Channel 6 is constantly bringing on guests who are experts in their field, regardless of whether they live in the community or not,” said Diane Gatsis Havinga, Channel 6 executive producer and CTV manager.  “Our goal is to be an effective source of information to the community we serve.”

The 10th anniversay celebration continues all year.  "We're producing a monthly segment featuring a previous "Village in Motion" show," said Havinga.  It will air every third Wednesday.

In its history, Channel 6 has received 21 Telly Awards for outstanding production work, including a Bronze Telly in 2011 for a “Spotlight on History” series produced by Andrew Seegers and a resident Bob Cromwell.  Telly awards are presented annually to honor local, regional and cable programs and commercials, film and video productions, and web commericials, video and film.

“I"m proud of the Channel 6 team at Greenspring,” said Robin Gliboff, executive director of the retirement community.  “Day after day they provide fascinating programming.”
