Lake Braddock Secondary School Ranks 12th In Virginia (ICYMI)

Burke's Lake Braddock Secondary School moved up three places to 12th best high school in Virginia, according to U.S. News rankings.

BURKE, VA -- Lake Braddock Secondary School in Burke is ranked the 12th best high school in Virginia, according to U.S. News and World Report.

The annual list of best high schools in the country ranks the schools on national and state levels. The school's ranking has moved up from 15th last year. Nationally, it dropped from 380 to 438.

In a profile of Lake Braddock Secondary, U.S. News says, "The AP participation rate at Lake Braddock Secondary School is 75 percent. The student body makeup is 52 percent male and 48 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 50 percent."

  8. Carnegie Vanguard High School, Houston, Texas
  9. School of Science and Engineering, Dallas, Texas

U.S. News assigned schools medals for their college readiness, based on graduation rates and state test scores. Lake Braddock Secondary earned a gold medal with a 58.4 college readiness index score and 97 percent graduation rate. Fifteen Virginia high schools were given gold medals by U.S. News, 39 received silver medals and the remaining 27 schools received bronze medals.

Compared with other states, Virginia came in 11th, with 16.9 percent of the state’s schools receiving silver or gold medals.
