Oak Hill Historic Marker Dedication
Thomas Jefferson's visits and architect William Macomber's renovations in the Colonial Revival style were memorialized at dedication.

On September 26, 2015, Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter, NSDAR, Springfield, VA, dedicated a DAR commemorative marker at Oak Hill, Annandale. VA. The marker was unveiled by Regent Lise Harvey. Oak Hill, built about 1790, is the last remaining Fitzhugh manor house on the vast Ravensworth Tract owned by William Fitzhugh, member of the VA House of Burgesses. His grandson Richard Fitzhugh, builder of Oak Hill, hosted President Thomas Jefferson as Jefferson traveled between Washington and Monticello. In the 1930’s, noted architect William M. Macomber oversaw modifications in the popular Colonial Revival style.
The marker dedication was part of Oak Hill Open House sponsored by “A Look Back at Braddock Committee” and Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter. Amanda and David Scheetz, owners of Oak Hill, were the hosts of the event. The ceremony opened with a fanfare by the US Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Welcoming remarks were made by Sharon Bulova, Chairman, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors and John Cook, Braddock District Supervisor.
The Open House provided an opportunity for the public to tour the home and enjoy presentations on Oak Hill’s history, Anna Maria Fitzhugh, Jefferson’s visits and music of the Revolution. Anna Maria Fitzhugh Chapter, NSDAR used the occasion to provide DAR information to the public.
