Ms. Rode at Kings Glen Elementary School is in the running to win a Farmers Insurance grant to fund an after school Robotics with the Raspberry Pi and GoPiGo Club.

Funding for this grant will go to the top 6 vote getters in each region & Ms. Rode is currently in contention, but just barely. Every vote between now and Tuesday September 30th would be tremendously appreciated to help fund this exciting opportunity for our local students. Anyone over 18 can vote every day at: https://www.thankamillionteachers.com/vote-for-a-proposal/vote-for-a-pro... Just enter Rode in the teacher name block and vote daily.

Here is Ms. Rodes’ grant proposal description: I would like to start an after school club at my elementary school to teach coding and robotics. Technologies have transformed the classroom. Students are taught how to use new technologies, however they seldom learn how they work. I plan to utilize Raspberry Pi computers and GoPiGo robotics platforms to teach students how computers and robots work starting with the basics. These platforms offer endless possibilities at a fraction of the cost of other robotics kits.

The students will work in collaborative teams to determine a goal or purpose for their robot. They will then design, build, and program their robot to accomplish their team goal. This will provide students with many opportunities to apply skills that they have learned using hands-on activities, analyze problems, and develop solutions.

This grant would allow the purchase of at least 10 Raspberry Pi units and GoPiGo robotics platforms to kick start this club.
