Occoquan Shops Host Lemonade Yard Sale

Occoquan merchants have banded together to fight off the summer doldrums. Shops in the historic town close to Burke are sponsoring a Lemonade Yard Sale on July 21.

"This is not sponsored by any organization, just some shops trying to get things going," said Kathy Alden of Spiral Creations.

Participating shops will display a yellow balloon, signifying special deals and free lemonade.  The Lemonade Yard Sale runs 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Founded in 1734 as a trading post, Occoquan sits along the banks of the Occoquan River.  Today it features 100 specialty shops and restaurants, stretching over four tree-lined blocks.

Participants include:

"We will have a large sidewalk sale those two days with many items 50 percent or more off. July 21 is also the last day of our Summer Sale, so there will be 20 percent to 50 percent off many items throughout the store including: sweaters, capes, scarves, hats, silver Celtic jewelry, gold & diamonds, antique china, prints and paintings.  We will have iced lemon water and lemon cookies for refreshments."

"Saturday we'll have a Cha Cha Bracelet Class from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a Totally Tubular Bracelet Class from 2 to 4 p.m. The Demos and Make & Takes are on a walk-in basis, registration is encouraged for classes."

"Olde Dominion Wine Shoppe in Occoquan will be holding a free wine tasting with Gray Ghost Vineyards on July 21 during the 'Lemonade Yard Sale.' Gray Ghost is the most highly awarded Virginia winery and we'll be pouring five of their gold medal winning wines. In addition, we'll offer discounts of 10 percent off the purchase of three or more bottles and 20 percent off cases all day."

"We will be participating by offering $2 Iced Lemon Ginger Teas to go and 5 percent off total bill for lunch."

"We have a "Million Dollar Colored Diamond Event" running from July 20 through 23. All items specially priced for this event.  Come in to see our 25 carat Black Diamond. Plus enter to Win 1 carat total weight Black Diamond Earrings -- no purchase necessary. We will have ice cold lemonade, too."

"We will have 20 percent discount on all Melissa & Doug Sand Toys, 50 percent discount on all books on our sale cart, free lemonade, and free lemon treats."

"I will have a sale on jewelry (20 percent off any single jewelry item), fresh lemonade, homemade lemon squares, and a drawing for a free pair of handmade sterling silver earrings."

"Spiral Creations will be doing 20-75 percent off many items during the Occoquan Lemonade Yard Sale."
