Captain Ron Smith, PhD will present What are Alcoholics/Addicts Medicating and what are the Alternatives?
Dr. Smith will present some of his unique insights into the under-pinnings of addiction and more healthy responses to them.
Ronald Smith, M.D., Ph.D., Capt (RET) USN is Board Certified in Internal
Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine. He
became one of the first physicians involved in Navy alcohol treatment
and later became Chief of Psychiatry at Bethesda Naval Medical Center
and psychiatrist for the U.S. Senate.
Since 2002, he has been annually recognized by the Consumer’s Research
Council as one of America’s Top Psychiatrists in Psychoanalysis and
Alcoholism. Dr. Smith retired from the Navy in 2011. He is in private
practice in Washington, DC, and is a noted expert and speaker on
addiction, alcoholism and trauma.
