Here are a few topics of conversation for younger kids:

• What do you want to be when you grow up? Why? What activities or school subjects do you enjoy? What kinds of jobs could you do in that subject? What kind of education do you think you will need to do that job?
• What do I do at my job? What do you think I like most about my job?
• Do you think I had a job when I was kid?

For older kids, try these questions:

• What careers interest you? Why? Have you considered ___________ based on your interest or skills in ___________. What education or training will you need to do that job?
• What college or school would you like to attend? How much do you think it will cost? Do you know how much we have saved for your education? How do you think the cost of a particular school will affect our family?
