Volunteer Fairfax is now accepting applications for participation in the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Board (YAB)!
If you are a student leader, part of a youth group or want to make a difference in your community then the Youth Advisory Board is for you!
Sponsored by Volunteer Fairfax, the Youth Advisory Board is a fun, unique opportunity for emerging student leaders to hone their leadership skills, network with other student leaders and create change in their community. Members of the YAB will work together with Volunteer Fairfax to aid in the planning and coordination of Fairfax County’s fourth annual Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), an annual campaign that celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who improve their communities each day of the year through service and service-learning, held on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

There are many benefits to be gained from involvement with the Youth Advisory Board. Students on the YAB receive an invaluable learning experience that will follow them their whole life. Here’s what a former member had to say about their time on the Board:
“Last year, I had the honor of participating in the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) with Volunteer Fairfax...I really enjoyed YAB because I was able to develop my public speaking skills by giving speeches to clubs and honor societies at my school about GYSD. I also loved the friendships I made with the other YAB members, who all attended different schools. I knew I was making a positive difference in my community through YAB, and the work of planning GYSD was masked in a fun and well organized way.”

Attendance at all scheduled sessions and the Day of Service (April 12) is mandatory for participation. In addition, students will have a second opportunity each month to get to know their follow YAB members. Monthly sessions will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Thursdays: October 3, November 7, December 5, January 9, February 6, March 6, April 3, and May 1.
