Adoptable Pet of the Week: Meet Sam
Sam is a 4-year-old Bichon mix who was recently pulled from a kill shelter. He is looking forward to having a place to call home.

Sam is an adorable young(ish) Bichon Frise mix. He weighs in at around 12 pounds. He is neutered and up to date on his shots. He is happy to announce that he is heartworm negative.
Healing Hearts Animal Rescue Group (HHARG) went to a local shelter to pick up a different dog to bring into their rescue, when they saw Sam in his kennel and asked about him.
Sam was dropped off at the shelter by his owner, who had Sam since puppyhood. She (the owner) is quite ill and was being admitted to the hospital for extensive and extended treatment. She had no one to care for Sam and most likely did not know that rescue was also an option, as this was a kill shelter.

After a very tearful and long goodbye, Sam’s owner left all of Sam’s possessions with the shelter and departed. Sam has not been well socialized and was understandably frightened in this new environment, which was very different than the only home he had ever known. The shelter felt he would be difficult to adopt and told the rescue director that they planned to euthanize him.
Well, long story short – HHARG left with one more dog than they had planned. After settling in at the rescue facility, the director is pleased to announce that Sam is friendly and affectionate and even social with the other dogs. All he needed was a chance.

Sam is a great little guy that needs a loving new home. He does not have experience being around toddlers and would probably do best in a quiet home with older kids, if any. He seems to get along well with other dogs.
