Brian Day, Former Coach at Westfield and Centreville, Takes Top Position at Herndon

Herndon names Brian Day new football coach

On Thursday the named Brian Day as their new varsity football coach. The former Westfield and Centreville assistant coach replaces Joe Sheaffer who resigned in December. Day has spent his entire 10-year career in the Concorde District including nine with Westfield and this past season with Centreville. He has been an assistant coach under two greats: Tom Verbanic and .

Herndon has gone 7-23 the past three seasons including 2-8 in 2011. The record is not surpising considering they have to play , , , , and in possibly the best district in the state of Virginia. Every team in the district except the Hornets has won a Northern Region Division 6 Championship within the past eight years.

Brian Day has won seven Concorde District titles, three Northern Region Division 6 Championships, and two Virginia AAA Division 6 State Championships. He has also coached two All-Met quarterbacks (Sean and Mike Glennon). Mike Glennon was The Washington Post Offensive Player of The Year in 2007 before having a great career at NC State and Sean went on to be the starting quarterback at Virginia Tech.

This past season Day was the quarterbacks coach for the and helped lead them to the Northern Region Division 6 Championship over and a berth in . His senior quarterback Mitch Ferrick threw for over 1,500 yards and was named Second Team All-Concorde District.

Mitch had this to say about Coach Day, "I learned more about the quarterback position this year than I have in my life. He was always calm and positive. I wish him the best of luck."

His other Wildcat quarterback sophomore Scott Walter said this about Coach Day, "I wish him the best of luck. He's a great coach and I learned a lot of new things as a quarterback from him in only one year."

Coach Day is a graduate of where he was coached by Verbanic, and Lenoir Rhyne College. He is currently a marketing teacher at Westfield High School.
