Celebrating Presidents Day in Washington DC

A great way to celebrate the holiday.

This weekend we get to celebrate Presidents Day. One of the ways to celebrate is to go to Washington DC.

We all know that all of the presidents lived in the White House, except George Washington. So let's learn a little bit about the White House at President's Park, which is the White House Visitors Center.

While you are there you can touch a piece of the White House that fell off. It is really neat. The White House was originally sandstone which was painted white.  The stone is rough.

You can also get the Junior Ranger Program Booklet and do up to 2 of the activities. The activities include making a schedule, a word search, match the pictures, draw your favorite part, interview a Park Ranger, and many more. When you are done you get to receive the badge.

There are books you can read about the White House that several children were reading. Samantha, age 8, from Ohio said her favorite part was "the books" because "they are fun!" She came "to look at the museums and landmarks."

Ranger Seth said, "I think what is unusual about this park is that it is based on a house that is where both people work and is a symbol. Not only that kids can grow up and live there but you can also tour it because there was a time when you could not tour the White House."

Washington DC is a great place for you to visit on President's Day.
